Sure, later in life he became more known as a spokesman for the NRA, but to me Charlton Heston will always be the tough guy movie hero of my youth. The Ten Commandments, The Omega Man, and most especially, Planet of the Apes, are all movies that I saw multiple times on television as a young kid and they left a lasting impression on me. In this day and age of sensitive political correctness, they just don't make cigar chomping, hairy-chested, tough guy movie heroes like him anymore.
